Riyad Mahrez good enough for Barcelona, says legend Xavi

The winger has been sensational for Leicester City this season.

Leicester City star Riyad Mahrez is good enough to play for Barcelona, club legend Xavi has told Al Araby Al Jadeed, as reported by Sky Sports.

The Algerian forward has been the star of the show alongside Jamie Vardy for the Foxes this season in their surprise Premier League title challenge.

He currently has 17 goals and 11 assists in all competitions in a campaign that looks destined to finish with him being awarded PFA Player of the Year.

There has already been talk of the big European clubs being interested in his services, with Barcelona among them, and Xavi believes he is good enough to play for the Catalan giants.

"He is a very good player," Sky Sports reporting him saying.

"He suddenly came to my attention this season, I didn't know about him before, but this season he has blown up.”

“Thanks to what he has done for his club, he can now play for any big club in Europe. He could play for Barcelona in the future. He is talented, but that is not in my hands these days!"

Mahrez’s future certainly seems to be one that will be the focus of intense speculation in the summer transfer window.

The Foxes will certainly be keen to keep hold of him and secure him to a new deal as they have done with Jamie Vardy.

Whether they can though is unknown, with his head sure to have been turned by the speculation currently surrounding him.

Should he move, it would surely be with the blessing of the club given the type of performances he has put in this season.
