The former Aston Villa boss has been discussing the Midlands club.
Indeed, Remi Garde finds himself under pressure as Villa plummet towards the Championship.
And Atkinson told the Express and Star: "They are what I would call proper managers and that is what Villa need now.
"Both of them [Pearson and Moyes] would be a good fit. You need someone who can find players and if you look at Moyes’ record at Everton, he brought in the likes of Phil Jagielka, Seamus Coleman, Leighton Baines and many more."
Both are certainly sensible choices for Villa but their recent failures mean there is no surefire choice who can guarantee success.
Moyes is a solid defensive manager, which is a plus. But Paul Lambert was also a defensive manager - and it didn't endear him to Aston Villa fans one bit during his years at Villa Park.
Pearson, however, may be exactly what Villa need in that he is a disciplinarian. The likes of Joleon Lescott and Micah Richards - if they remain with the club - certainly won't get away with their current antics under a manager like that.
As with every candidate, though, Pearson comes with a negative side. He's controversial... would he get on with the Aston Villa hierarchy?
