The forward had been linked with both Leeds United and Sheffield Wednesday in recent times.
Norwich City striker Kyle Lafferty has finally completed a loan move away from Carrow Road, but his destination may surprise some.
While the Mirror recently suggested Sheffield Wednesday were going to pip Championship rivals Leeds United to the Northern Ireland international’s signature, it was in fact Birmingham City who sealed a deal with time running out in the emergency loan window.
Lafferty’s lack of game-time at Norwich was no doubt growing increasingly concerning for everyone involved with Northern Ireland, given his importance to the side heading into Euro 2016.
What the forward needs is matches, and both Wednesday and Leeds could have done with him for different reasons.
The Owls are currently sixth in the Championship, fighting hard for promotion back to the top flight, while Leeds are just hoping for a top-10 finish in what has been an up-and-down campaign.
However, Lafferty has not signed for either of them, instead moving to ninth-placed Birmingham, who will have not given up hope of finishing in the top six come May.
Following the news of Lafferty’s move we took to Twitter to see what Wednesday and Leeds fans thought and you can read a selection of what we found below:
Not bothered about Lafferty, opinions of fans at clubs he has been at, he's no better than what we have at the club #lufc— Kirsty Stanley (@stanners_1982) March 24, 2016
Here come the fans that think it's a joke that we didn't get lafferty#lufc— paul kelly (@paulieleeds) March 24, 2016
@VitalWednesday I'd rather not get promoted than have someone like Lafferty representing the club— brian gallagher (@brigal1) March 24, 2016
