Hull battle Brighton, Blackburn and Burnley for non-league prospect Ben Heneghan

The Chester FC defender is out of contract this summer.

Hull City are battling Championship rivals Burnley, Blackburn Rovers and Brighton & Hove Albion to sign Chester FC centre-back Ben Heneghan, according to the Sun.

Heneghan is out of contract this summer and told the Chester Chronicle on Thursday that he wasn't ruling out extending his stay at the Deva Stadium.

However, the 22-year-old is likely to find Football League interest hard to ignore, especially with Hull, Burnley and Brighton pushing for promotion this season.

Heneghan signed for Chester upon his release by Stoke City two summers ago, having been on the books of Everton previously.

And, with Heneghan born in Manchester, geography could give the upper hand to Lancashire rivals Burnley and Blackburn.

As well as impressing at the back, the Conference National star has weighed in with six goals in 74 league appearances for Chester and his displays have led to several caps for England's C team.

The future of Blackburn's Shane Duffy - a former Everton teammate of Heneghan - may also play a part in his future, after the Mirror linked the Irishman with a summer move to Hull.
