Age Hareide was very pleased with the performance of Eriksen.
It was the first time that Denmark’s new coach Age Hareide has worked with Eriksen and he was clearly impressed with the Tottenham player.
He is quoted by Berlingske as telling reporters after the game:
“Christian Eriksen was good today. He could operate freely behind the two strikers, but he could also get down deep in the field and retrieve the ball. In the first half, Iceland had trouble getting hold of him, for he was untouchable and movable.
“I do not know if I've found the key to getting him to perform. You may ask about that next year and not in March 2016.”
However, Hareide was by no means suggesting he had already cracked the code to getting the best out of Eriksen:
There is no doubt that the Spurs man plays his best football through the middle. When asked to play from wide the defensive responsibilities weigh heavily on his mind and he lacks the freedom to roam.
He has not had his best season for Spurs this term but in recent weeks has been in good form. An ever-present in their title pursuit he is the player that Denmark will want to build their entire team around in the future.
Tottenham fans will just hope he continues his good run of performances when he returns from international duty.
