Tottenham Hotspur's double winning legend Cliff Jones compares Danny Rose to Gareth Bale

The left-back has been in great form this season and has earned an England recall.

It is not long ago that many a Tottenham Hotspur fan would have been happy to see the back of Danny Rose.

The left-back was struggling for consistency at White Hart Lane prior to Mauricio Pochettino’s arrival at the club and his defensive frailties were often exposed.

This season however he has been in great form and has established himself as Tottenham’s number one left-back option. He has also earned his way back into the England set-up.

Rose is of course an attacking option at full-back, as he originally made the grade as a winger.

One former Tottenham winger has certainly been impressed by his performances this season.

Cliff Jones helped Spurs to the double in 1961 and also won the European Cup Winner’s cup with the club in 1963.

Considered one of the best left-wingers of his time the 81-year-old Welshman has spoken glowingly of Rose to ESPN today, even suggesting he is having a similar impact as Gareth Bale did when he played wide for Spurs:

"He's been absolutely sensational and he's causes the opposition big problems every time he plays.

"Rose is doing exactly the same as what Gareth Bale was doing for Tottenham -- getting down the wing and putting in crosses."

Rose certainly has a while yet before he gets to Bale’s overall level, the likelihood he never will.

But if he can do what Bale never could, and become a potent full-back in the Spurs fold, he could go on to become a club stalwart.
