Report: West Ham’s Alex Song likely to return to Barcelona, but deal possible

The midfielder has struggled to make an impact this season.

West Ham United midfielder Alex Song is set to return to Barcelona in the summer, reports the Mirror.

The midfielder was secured on a season long loan deal in the summer, having impressed in a similar deal under Sam Allardyce last year.

He has struggled to replicate that form this season though as the likes of Cheikhou Kouyate and Mark Noble have shone in the heart of midfield.

In a season largely disrupted by injury he has managed to make just 15 appearances, and it is looking increasingly likely that he will return to the Nou Camp at the end of the campaign.

His time with the Hammers may not be entirely over though; with the Mirror reporting that they may still try to secure a cut price deal for him regardless, if they secure Champions League football.

The Catalan giants are keen on a sale, with him unlikely to get into their team in future, and it is not hard to see a deal being struck should both sides want it.

If that doesn’t happen, there is still likely to be a long line of suitors for his services given his experience.
