Sir Geoff Hurst has admitted to the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast Show on TalkSPORT that West Ham United could find it tough to break into the top four this season.
The Hammers are currently chasing down Manchester City and Arsenal, as they look to claim a place in Europe’s top club competition.
However, Hurst feels that West Ham will have enjoyed a great season, even if they come up short in their quest to claim a Champions League place.
“I think it’s going to be a bit tough,” the England World Cup hero said when asked whether West Ham would make the top four this season.
“There’s some big teams up there. But whatever happens from now, it’s been a fantastic season for the club.
“If Leicester hadn’t been challenging for the title, all the talk would have been about our club - we’re competing for the top four, and still in the cup.
“It’s such an important season for us this year, going into the new stadium in August.”
West Ham are currently in wonderful form, having lost just two of their last 22 matches in all competitions.
The Hammers have made it into the quarter finals of the FA Cup, while they are also keeping the pressure on the top four hopefuls in the Premier League.
West Ham are just one point behind Manchester City, as things stand, and they currently occupy fifth place.
West Ham return to action after the international break with a match against Crystal Palace at Upton Park on April 2nd.
