Ray Wilkins says Everton are the ideal club for Liverpool's Christian Benteke

Christian Benteke has endured a miserable first season at Liverpool.

Ray Wilkins has told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast Show, which was broadcast on 24th March, that Liverpool striker Christian Benteke would be an ideal signing for Everton.

Benteke has endured a miserable first season at Anfield, after signing from Aston Villa last summer.

The Belgian international has scored just seven times in 25 Premier League appearances for the Reds, and his confidence seems to have visibly dipped.

Question marks have arisen over whether Benteke is suited to playing in Liverpool’s team, as they do not tend to pump crosses into the box.

The 25-year-old’s future at Anfield is now in doubt, with the summer transfer window on the horizon.

And Wilkins believes that Liverpool’s Merseyside rivals, Everton, could do worse than submitting a bid for the powerful striker.

“The ideal club for him would be a club which puts the ball in from wide areas,” Wilkins said. “Everton get crosses in - they look to get crosses into the box.

“Anybody who looks to get the ball into advanced areas, and slings the ball across the goal would have a massive unit [to aim at]. He would score goals in that type of environment.”

Everton could be on the look out for a new striker in the summer transfer window, with Romelu Lukaku currently being linked with a move away from the club.

Lukaku has been touted as a potential buy for Real Madrid (The Sun), and Everton could face a fight to keep hold of their top scorer.
