Ray Wilkins has told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast Show on TalkSPORT, which was broadcast on the morning of 24th March, that he believes Eric Dier has been brilliant for Tottenham Hotspur this season.
Dier was moved into a defensive midfield role by Mauricio Pochettino at the start of the season, and he has thrived in front of the defence.
And Wilkins now believes that Dier should be a permanent selection in Roy Hodgson’s England squad for EURO 2016.
“I would play a diamond for England, and I would try and score a bundle of goals,” Wilkins said. “I think Dier is a shoo-in as a holding midfield player, he’s been absolutely brilliant for Tottenham this year.”
Dier was only rewarded with his first two England caps during the last international break.
The 22-year-old played against both Spain and France, and he looked at home in both appearances.
Dier has now been named in England’s squad for their upcoming friendlies against Holland and Germany and he is expected to play a key role.
Dier has made 44 appearances for Spurs in all competitions this season, and established himself as one of the first names on the team sheet at White Hart Lane.
