Ray Wilkins has told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast Show on TalkSPORT, which was broadcast on 24th March, that David Moyes would be an excellent appointment for Aston Villa.
Moyes has been tipped as one of the favourites to take over at Villa, and the Mirror suggest that the former Manchester United manager would even be willing to drop to the Championship to take charge of the Midlands club.
Wilkins feels that Moyes’ arrival at Villa Park would work well, and he has backed the Scottish boss to take over from Remi Garde.
"David is an excellent manager and Villa is a fantastic football club with a great fan base," Wilkins said. "He would be a very, very good fit."
Villa look destined to be playing Championship football next season, after what has been a disastrous campaign.
The Claret and Blues have won just three matches all season, and they are currently 12 points adrift of safety with just seven league games remaining.
Villa are expected to part company with current boss Garde in the near future (The Mirror), with the two parties reportedly trying to agree a compensation package.
Moyes is said to be Villa’s first choice to take over from the French boss, but they may face competition.
Celtic have also been linked with the ex-Real Sociedad manager in the Guardian, but Wilkins has his doubts over whether Moyes would want to manage in Scotland.
“I think David likes the hustle and bustle down here,” Wilkins says. “I think at Celtic if you don’t win the treble there is something wrong.”
