The Newcastle United youngster impressed between the posts this week.
The 17-year-old made the step up for Wednesday evening’s clash with Brighton & Hove Albion and he impressed in the 1-1 draw, later claiming that he was very happy with his performance.
Prior to his first under-21 start, Harker was an unused substitute on eight occasions this season. However on this evidence he will be getting more minutes between now and the end of the campaign.
Harker made three brilliant saves to keep the Seagulls at bay and ensure Newcastle’s youngsters earned a share of the spoils, and coach Peter Beardsley singled him out after the full-time whistle.
“He made a couple of unbelievable saves,” the Magpies legend told nufc.co.uk. “But the thing I liked about him was that he was very composed.
“Fair play to him; he couldn’t have made a better debut.”
Newcastle have some exciting young players coming through the ranks right now and Harker can certainly be added to that list.
However, with the first-team fighting for their Premier League future the fans would be forgiven for focusing on the senior side and waiting for another day to get excited about Harker and his under-21 teammates.
Still, on this evidence and Beardsley’s praise, the teenager could have a bright future at St James’ Park.
