Leeds United U21 coach gives insight into Ronaldo Vieira and Malik Wilks after impressive U21 performances

Elland Road East Stand

Leeds United have two very intriguing young talents coming through the ranks.

Leeds United under-21 coach Jason Blunt has been speaking to BBC Radio Leeds about two of the club’s next generation, Ronaldo Vieira and Malik Wilks.

The two players featured against both Crystal Palace and Birmingham City this week and now Blunt has given Leeds fans more insight into the duo.

Midfielder Vieira was brilliant against the Eagles’ second string earlier this week and he came as close as anyone to breaking the deadlock in a 0-0 draw.

Having impressed on trial the teenager was handed a scholarship deal at Elland Road and on recent evidence a professional contract will surely be offered in due course.

“Ronaldo Vieira did extremely well the other day, he could have scored two or three,” Blunt told BBC Radio Leeds.

“Today (against Birmingham) you probably didn’t see him at his best because he’s only just stepped up to the under-21s. It’s probably his first full-game. But for him to have the game he did the other day up against the likes of Jason Puncheon and be the best player on the pitch.”

Vieira is not the only exciting youngster staking a claim for more under-21 appearances, with striker Malik Wilks also making waves at the club.

The young forward may not have managed a goal this week but expect them to flow in due course, provided he takes the Leeds coach’s advice on board in the years ahead.

“Malik is raw, got a lot to learn both tactically and technically, but he’s something different, he excites people,” Blunt said. “His best role is on the right cutting in on his left, anywhere up top he is a threat.”

Both players may have a chance to impress with Leeds’ first-team during pre-season but much could depend on who is in charge at that time.
