Arsenal still in the Premier League title race, insists defender Gabriel

The Gunners are currently 11 points behind leaders Leicester City.

Arsenal are still in the race for the Premier League title, defender Gabriel Paulista has insisted, in an interview given to Sambafoot.

The Gunners have endured a difficult 2016 so far as they have struggled for form and fallen away in the race for the title.

They are currently 11 points behind leaders Leicester City, with many criticising manager Arsene Wenger for not taking advantage of an open title race this season.

They do have a game in hand to reduce the gap to eight points though, and Gabriel insists they still have a chance of winning the title come the end of the campaign.

“We have a great chance to be champions this season,” he told Sambafoot.

“However, we went through a period of bad form and it left us behind Leicester, who are having a great season.”

“But we do not throw in the towel and we can make a difference in duels we have to fight for the Premier League title.”

The problem for the Gunners is that Claudio Ranieri’s side do not look like they are considering slowing down any time soon.

While they may not be flying as they once were, their latest run of 1-0 wins shows that they have the ability to grind out games, as Chelsea did last season.

Indeed, it is hard to see them losing three of their last seven games to give Wenger’s side a chance to catch them up at this moment in time, but the Arsenal players at least believe it is possible.
