Newcastle United will not be able to call on the midfielder directly after the international break.
The 26-year-old collected his 10th booking of the season in Sunday’s 1-1 draw against his former club Sunderland, meaning he will be unavailable for the upcoming clashes with Norwich City and Southampton.
With the Magpies deep in a relegation scrap they need as many first-team players available as possible. However the versatile Colback will have to watch from the side-lines as Rafa Benitez’s men attempt to pull clear of the bottom three.
Colback has recently switched to left-back to cover for defensive injuries, his versatility proving vital for a Newcastle side currently 19th in the table with just eight matches remaining.
Speaking after his latest booking, Colback told the Chronicle, “It was going to come at some point. I think I did well to get to this game without one.
“It’ll be disappointing to miss the two games but that’s just the way it is. I’ve got to deal with it.”
Newcastle still have their fate in their own hands as they have played a game less than Norwich and will turn things round with three points against the Canaries after the international break, but they will have to do that without Colback.
