Aston Villa fans react on Twitter to Christian Benteke admission over Liverpool move

Benteke Benitez Mistake

This just makes Christian Benteke's move to Liverpool even more painful for Villa fans, right?

Liverpool striker Christian Benteke has admitted moving to Liverpool may not have been the best move for his career.

Benteke left Aston Villa in the summer to sign with the Reds, becoming one of their most expensive ever signings at £32 million.

Currently on international duty with Belgium, Benteke has been reflecting on his season and admits he is frustrated at being left on the bench, sitting out the Capital One Cup Final among other key matches.

Speaking to Voetball International quoted by The BBC, he said: "Some team-mates said that I was lucky with the arrival of Klopp because I certainly would play.

"When your coach says he wanted to take you to Dortmund and a little later you sit at the same club and he ignores you it is hard to understand."

Asked if he has a future at the club, Benteke simply replied: "We'll see at the end of the season."

Benteke is behind fit again Daniel Sturridge and Divock Origi in the pecking order, and when both were absent, Jurgen Klopp has preferred to play Roberto Firmino up front.

Danny Ings' return from injury next season will only further complicate matters for Benteke, who will still have a relatively high re-sale value.

His former Aston Villa boss Tim Sherwood warned last summer that a move to Liverpool may not be good for Benteke, insisting to SkySports that the Anfield side may not be a good stylistic fit, commenting: "We cross more balls into the box than any other club in the league and Christian has said that he feeds off crosses. There’s no point going to a club where they don’t cross the ball."

Benteke took the gamble as he was entitled to do, but so far it has not worked out, and neither has it for Aston Villa, who were unable to replace his goal tally, while Tim Sherwood was sacked within months.

They now sit rock bottom of the league, and supporters have little sympathy for Benteke with the way it has turned out.

Here is a look at the reaction to his comments...

Liverpool had at the time of Sherwood's comments, delivered fewer crosses than any Premier League side in 2014/15.
