Aiden Nesbitt insists he wants Patrick Roberts to do well at Celtic

Patrick Roberts has played four times for Celtic so far.

Aiden Nesbitt has insisted to the Daily Record that he is hoping Patrick Roberts is a success at Celtic.

Roberts’ arrival, on an 18-month loan from Manchester City, appears to have blocked Nesbitt’s route into the Bhoys’ first team.

However, the 19-year-old attacking midfielder, insists that he is hoping that the England youth international can make an impression at Parkhead.

“People say Celtic have signed so many players in my position," he said. "But they’ve signed me as well – I’m one of those players.

“Maybe because I’m a youth player, it’s not as big a deal. But I’ve still got another three and a half years to impress.

“I hope the likes of Roberts comes in and does well for Celtic."

Nesbitt is widely regarded as one of the finest prospects in Celtic’s team, but he has not managed to make much of an impression at senior level yet.

The playmaker is currently out on loan at Partick Thistle, as Ronny Deila has felt that the youngster doesn't stand much chance of breaking into his starting line-up.

While with Partick, Nesbitt has made three appearances to date - as he looks to gain some experience of playing in the Scottish Premiership.

Roberts, meanwhile, has played four times for Celtic to date, although only one of these appearances has been as a starter, with Deila seemingly reluctant to throw the youngster straight in.
