Arsenal supporters have voted in favour of Arsene Wenger resigning when quizzed whether it is time for the Frenchman to step down from his post at the Emirates Stadium via a poll produced by HITC Sport.
Wenger has come under heavy criticism from the club’s supporters in recent weeks after defeats to Barcelona and Watford saw them eliminated from the Champions League and FA Cup respectively.
The Premier League title is now their last chance of silverware for the season, and they currently trail league leaders Leicester City by 11 points with only eight games remaining.
In a bizarre season where the usual challengers Manchester City, Chelsea, Manchester United and Liverpool are all way off the pace, many argue Arsenal will never again have a better chance of winning the title.
And that is seemingly the final straw for the club’s supporters, with North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur also leading them in the table by six points adding further salt to the wounds.
In a poll conducted by HITC Sport, 79% of those who participated believe it is time for Wenger to step aside and allow the club to go in a new direction under the guidance of a different manager.
Whether that will see the team finally win a league title for the first time in 12 years remains to be seen, yet sticking with Wenger has wielded the same results year on year and it is no longer good enough.
With Pep Guardiola to join Manchester City and Antonio Conte seemingly heading to Chelsea, winning the title will be more difficult next season while a number of mid-table clubs are bridging the gap on the top four.
