Tottenham confirm Nabil Bentaleb has had knee surgery; recovery time around six weeks

The Tottenham Hotspur player has gone under the knife this week.

Tottenham Hotspur have announced on their official Twitter account that midfielder Nabil Bentaleb has undergone knee surgery and will be out of action for around six weeks as a result.

The Algerian international has featured just 11 times for Spurs’ first-team this season, with ankle and back injuries playing their part, along with a dip in form that saw him feature for the under-21s for a spell.

But now it seems Bentaleb will have to wait until next season at the earliest to get back into Mauricio Pochettino’s side, with six weeks from today taking us up until May.

Tottenham are currently fighting for the Premier League title; an apparent two-way battle with leaders Leicester City who are five points clear with just seven matches remaining.

As a result it is unlikely Bentaleb will get any minutes in the final few games with Tottenham fighting for every single point and playing their strongest available XI as a consequence.

Bentaleb was a regular for Tottenham last season, making 35 appearances in all competitions, but Deli Alli and Eric Dier are now the undisputed first-choice midfield pairing at White Hart Lane and they are not going to give that up without one hell of a fight.
