City are in dire form right now, as Sunday's 1-0 home defeat to Manchester United means it's now just four points in the last six Premier League games for Manuel Pellegrini, with the club's Premier League title hopes all but dead.
Pellegrini has just a matter of months left in charge though, with Bayern Munich boss Pep Guardiola heading to the Etihad Stadium at the end of the season - and the Spaniard will be keen to overhaul and ageing and ultimately poorly-built City squad.
Now, The Guardian report that Guardiola is hoping to lure Thiago Alcantara to the Etihad Stadium, having worked together at Bayern Munich as well as former club Barcelona.
The 24-year-old, who left Barcelona for Bayern in 2013, told the Daily Mail in December that, despite Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea wanting his Spanish international team-mate to join him at Old Trafford, no deal was ever on the table from the Red Devils.
Now though, Thiago may end up in Manchester after all, as The Guardian claim that Guardiola wants to work with him yet again, and would be joining as a replacement for Yaya Toure in the City midfield.
It's stated that a deal could cost as much as £25m, but with City's deep pockets, that shouldn't be much of an issue, as Guardiola looks to spend big and rescue City.
