Newcastle United and Sunderland played out a 1-1 draw in the Premier League on Sunday.

Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley has told The Mirror that failure to win against Sunderland at the weekend was not a disaster for the team.

The Magpies played out a 1-1 draw with Sunderland at home in the Tyne-Wear derby on Sunday afternoon.

The result keeps Newcastle in the Premier League relegation zone, but Ashley does not think that the draw is a bad result.

“It’s disappointing because I personally want to win every game for Newcastle United,” Ashley told The Mirror when asked about the draw against Sunderland on Sunday. “It doesn’t matter who they are playing. But it is not a disaster.”

Newcastle would have preferred to win against Sunderland, of course, but the way they came back to earn a point does give them some hope of survival.

The Magpies have some very good players, but they have been underperforming all season.

Under new manager Rafael Benitez, Newcastle are going to be more organised and tighter at the back, and that is going to give them a better chance of staying up.

Newcastle will return to action at the start of next month when they take on fellow relegation candidates Norwich City away from home at Carrow Road in the Premier League.
