Former Arsenal striker John Hartson says fans' attitudes towards Arsene Wenger shock him.
Former Arsenal striker John Hartson says he is shocked by the attitudes among supporters regarding Arsene Wenger.
A banner was displayed after the FA Cup fifth round replay away at Hull City which called on Wenger to quit the club.
A loss at home in the competition days later to Watford compounded frustration with the manager, with supporters upset at seeing the club sit behind Leicester City and rivals Tottenham Hotspur in the race to win the Premier League title.
Hartson, who played for the Gunners between 1995 and 1997 and was sold by the Frenchman, believes Wenger deserves far more respect, arguing that supporters have short memories.
Shocked at the Hatred towards Wenger by some Arsenal fans.. Clueless with short memories.. Don't hang him out to dry. #poor— John Hartson (@JohnHartson10) March 22, 2016
Arsenal last won the title in 2003/04, and with rivals Manchester United and Chelsea nowhere to be seen and Manchester City's challenge weakening, there has not been a better time for Wenger's side to win the league.
The Gunners still have a chance to put that right this season, but need a lot to break their way. They are 11 points behind Leicester City, with a game in hand.
