Don Hutchison says Everton should sell Lukaku for £60m; better players for half the price

The Everton forward has been linked with a big-money move to Real Madrid.

Former Everton player Don Hutchison has taken to Twitter to suggest the Toffees would be wise to cash in on striker Romelu Lukaku this summer if they get a huge bid for the Belgian international.

Lukaku has scored 25 goals in 37 appearances this season and despite being only 22 he already has a quite remarkable 119 senior club goals to his name, including 61 for Everton, 41 for Anderlecht and 17 for former loan club West Bromwich Albion.

Lukaku’s continuing good form makes it inexplicable to think Chelsea actually parted company with him after just 15 first-team appearances, but Everton will not be complaining about that.

However, they could be worried if the latest report from the Sun is true, suggesting Real Madrid are prepared to pay £60million for the player.

That is a huge sum but if Lukaku continues on his current trajectory he could ultimately blossom into one of Europe’s very best strikers, and Hutchison for one feels Everton would be smart to cash in for that price.

Writing on Twitter on Tuesday morning, he said, “I have to say if Everton get £60m for Rom, I’d take it. Plenty players out there better for less than half that amount.”

It remains to be seen if an offer will come during the summer, but just imagine what Everton manager Roberto Martinez could do to the squad with that kind of money.
