Stoke City midfielder Charlie Adam revealed on The Monday Night Club show on BBC Radio 5 live on Monday evening (broadcast from 7pm, March 21) that the Sunderland players are confident of staving off relegation from the Premier League at the end of the season.
Adam recently had a discussion with the Sunderland players in Dubai, and he has revealed what he was told.
“We were in Dubai a few weeks ago," said the former Rangers midfielder on The Monday Night Club show on BBC Radio 5 live on Monday evening (broadcast from 7pm, March 21).
"I met the Sunderland lads there. Speaking to the players, they said: ‘We signed a few good players in January. The manager has done very well.’ They were very confident that they were going to stay up.”
Sunderland are third from bottom in the Premier League table at the moment and are in real danger of getting relegated to the Championship at the end of the season.
The Black Cats, though, should be optimistic of survival as they have Sam Allardyce is in charge. The Englishman knows the Premier League inside out and is a specialist in keeping clubs up.
The former Newcastle United and West Ham United boss has also been shrewd in the January transfer window, signing Wahbi Khazri and Jan Kirchhoff among others.
From Adam’s comments, it seems that the Sunderland players are confident, and that is certainly a good sign.
