Newcastle United striker Aleksandar Mitrovic has told Serbian newspaper Novosti that he wants Tottenham Hotspur to win the Premier League this season.
Mitrovic was the hero for Newcastle on Sunday afternoon, as his late header rescued a point against North East rivals Sunderland, even though the 1-1 draw did little to help the Magpies' fight against relegation.
Newcastle's fight against relegation is likely to go down to the wire, as is the Premier League title race, as two teams unexpectedly enter the final weeks of the season battling for top spot.
Leicester City's remarkable season sees them sitting five points clear at the top of the Premier League table, whilst Tottenham, spearheaded by England duo Harry Kane and Dele Alli, are right on their tails, with the usual suspects like Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City and Manchester United lagging behind.
Few could have predicted this situation before the start of the season, and Leicester are understandably the favourites for the title given their lead - but Newcastle ace Mitrovic hopes they don't win the league.
Mitrovic has told Serbian newspaper Novosti that he wants Tottenham to pip the Foxes and win the title, citing that their work with young players and the 'excellent' Mauricio Pochettino make him want Spurs to finish top come May.
The burly centre forward also suggested that Leicester weren't much better than Newcastle when the two sides met last week, a game which Claudio Ranieri's men won 1-0.
"Honestly, I want Tottenham to win the title," said Mitrovic. "I like the principle of pushing their young players, and the coach Pochettino is excellent. We just played against Leicester and were almost better than them," he added.
Do you think Tottenham can pip Leicester to the title?
