Rio Ferdinand has hailed young Manchester United talent Rio Ferdinand after his performance against Manchester City.
Lingard was an integral part of United's side as they won 1-0 at The Etihad, with young teammate Marcus Rashford scoring the winning goal.
He was involved throughout as United posed problems for a City defence lacking captain Vincent Kompany.
Former United defender Ferdinand took to Twitter to praise Lingard, who he knew from his time at the club when the youngster was in the academy.
Lingard.....proper footballer. Does what most kids these days don't appreciate....intelligent movement off the ball.— Rio Ferdinand (@rioferdy5) March 20, 2016
Lingard earned a surprise call-up to England's senior squad last year after breaking into the side, and a Euro 2016 place is not out of the question.
He almost scored a winner over City at Old Trafford, hitting the bar in a 0-0 draw, and scored away at Chelsea earlier in the campaign.
Last season his spell in the team was wrecked by an injury sustained on the first day of the season against Swansea City, but he has made the most of his opportunity this campaign and is currently keeping Memphis Depay out of the starting line-up.
