Rangers legend says Nathan Oduwa loan move to Ibrox was a failure

Rangers legend Derek Johnstone says that Nathan Oduwa did not succeed at Ibrox.

Derek Johnstone has claimed in The Glasgow Evening Times that Nathan Oduwa’s loan move to Rangers was a failure.

Oduwa joined Scottish Championship club Rangers on loan from Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur in the summer of 2015.

The 19-year-old winger was expected to remain at the Gers for the 2015-16 season, but he returned to Tottenham in January.

Johnstone, who played for Rangers in the 1970s and 1980s and is a club legend, believes that the England Under-20 international’s loan move to Ibrox eventually proved to be a failure.

“Nathan Oduwa spent the first half of the season at Ibrox after arriving from Spurs and looked a revelation for two or three months before fading,” the former Scotland international wrote in The Glasgow Evening Times when discussing Rangers’ loan signings this season. “You would probably have to mark that one down as a bit of a failure.”

Oduwa, now on loan at Colchester United, was popular among the Rangers fans due to his talent and the tricks he showed on the pitch.

The youngster, who made 19 appearances for the Gers, failed to maintain consistency.

Rangers are at the top of the Scottish Championship table at the moment with 72 points from 29 matches.

Mark Warburton’s side are 11 points clear of second-placed Falkirk and have a game in hand.
