Jermain Defoe put the Black Cats in the lead on the stroke of half time, but Aleksandar Mitrovic equalised for the home team on 83 minutes.

Former Newcastle forward Quinn was following the match, and he was pleased with the final result, while ex-Magpies defender Steve Howey gave his verdict on the draw.

Over the course of the 90 minutes at St. James’ Park on Sunday afternoon, hosts Newcastle had 60% of the possession, took 17 shots of which eight were on target, and earned two corners.

Visitors Sunderland had 40% of the possession, took 14 shots of which four were on target, and earned five corners.

Both Newcastle and Sunderland remain in the Premier League bottom three, and they could get relegated to the Championship at the end of the season.
