Liverpool fans react on Twitter to Joe Allen's performance against Southampton

Liverpool lost a two-goal lead against Southampton at the weekend.

Liverpool midfielder Joe Allen has divided opinion for much of his time at Anfield, but there is no doubt the Welsh international has upped his game since the arrival of Jurgen Klopp.

The new Reds manager knows how to get the best out of players and in the case of Allen he has seemingly transformed him almost overnight.

On Sunday, the midfielder started for Liverpool against Southampton, and for a time it looked like the altered line-up would do their manager and themselves proud, racing into a two-goal lead against an impressive Saints side.

Allen had the chance to put the game to bed but his missed opportunity would ultimately return to haunt him as Southampton roared back to win 3-2.

Philippe Coutinho and Daniel Sturridge may have put Liverpool 2-0 up after just 22 minutes, but a Sadio Mane brace and another goal from Graziano Pelle ensured it was ultimately a torrid afternoon for Klopp and his men.

Allen was making his 24th appearance of the season, most of which have come from the bench, but he was unable to add to his two goals and two assists to date.

After the match we took to Twitter to see what Liverpool fans thought of Allen’s latest performance and you can read a selection of what we found below:
