Liverpool have been linked with the exciting young defender.
According to a recent report from German newspaper Bild, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is interested in signing Hoffenheim centre-back Niklas Sule this summer, and if that is true he would be a superb addition to the Reds’ squad.
With a contract until the summer of 2019 he may not come cheap. However, with his current club fighting for their Bundesliga future – they are currently 16th in an 18-club division, level on points with the teams directly above and below them – it may be a case of cashing in during the close-season.
The vast majority of Liverpool’s recent problems have come as a result of their porous back-line, as emphatically proved on Sunday when they conceded three second-half goals to crash to a 3-2 defeat against Southampton.
With Joel Matip already secured on a free transfer, Klopp is clearly focusing on that area as early as possible, and Sule would be a wonderful partner for the Cameroon international.
He may only be 20, but the alleged Liverpool target is built like a tank and would bring a considerable amount of physicality to the Reds’ defence.
He would certainly not be bullied and he would be a nightmare for opposing strikers if he settles quickly in England.
Despite his youth Sule has already racked up 77 appearances for Hoffenheim, scoring an impressive six goals in the process.
Liverpool need heart, fight and stability in the centre of their defence and Yule offers all three. He also has years to improve and under Klopp he could become one of the best centre-backs in Europe.
