Ian Wright slates Everton's 'ridiculous' tactics against Arsenal and questions Roberto Martinez

Everton were beaten 2-0 by Arsenal at Goodison Park yesterday.

Ian Wright has slated Roberto Martinez’s tactics during Everton’s match against Arsenal on The Sun Goals Podcast.

Everton were beaten 2-0 by Arsenal at Goodison Park, and they put in a performance that Martinez described as their worst of the season.

The Toffees never managed to pose much of a threat against the Gunners, as their passing was sloppy throughout.

And Wright felt it was ridiculous that Everton persisted with their patient approach, when they had a striker in such impressive form as Lukaku.

“Everton were very poor,” the former Gunners front man said. “Lukaku is on 18 goals and he only had 13 touches, or something like that.

“He had one header. For them to not get the ball into him is ridiculous. Question marks are now being asked of Roberto Martinez.”

Martinez is under serious pressure at Everton, as the Toffees have been disappointingly poor throughout the campaign so far.

Everton are currently occupying 12th spot in the Premier League table, and they are closer to the relegation zone than the top four.

The Toffees’ failings have not been down to a lack of quality, but they have struggled to shut opposition teams out.

At the moment Everton’s performances in the cups are keeping Martinez in the job, as the Merseyside outfit have made it to the semi-final of both the League Cup and the FA Cup this term.
