Former Everton hero recalls hilarious tale about Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard

A former Everton hero has lifted the lid on a funny story involving their bitter rivals' best ever player Steven Gerrard.

Kevin Campbell scored 36 goals and assisted many more in 137 games over six years for the Toffees between 1999 and 2005.

The former Arsenal striker is a legend at Goodison Park after famously scoring nine goals in eight games on loan from Turkish side Trabzonspor to save the club from relegation.

It also made him Everton's top goalscorer that season and his six goals in his first three games earned him the April player of the month award, the first on-loan player ever to win it.

Campbell's move to Everton was made permanent in the summer of 1999 for a fee of £3million and his history making stint at the club continued into the first half of the 1999-2000 season when he scored Everton's winning goal in the Merseyside derby at Anfield against the Reds.

'Who was stood there on his own...'

And speaking to Sky Sports' Fantasy Football Club earlier this month, Campbell lifted the lid on an incident after that memorable win which will stay with him, and Gerrard, forever.

"It wasn't at the ground (that I bumped into Gerrard," Campbell told FFC.

"We went out to celebrate the win because obviously we were buzzing after the game.

"It's funny, the place we were I walked into the toilet and there's a big urinal and who was stood there, on his own... Steven Gerrard.

"So I thought to myself 'This is my chance' so I've walked up and I've just bumped him and I've stood beside him and he's turned around and he's looked at me and went 'Ahh nooo'."

Cue outbursts of laughter from all parties on the Fantasy Football Club show.

Campbell retired in 2007 after a stint at Cardiff City, one appearance short of 500 career games.

Gerrard meanwhile is seeing out his playing days in the USA with LA Galaxy.
