Alan Shearer has also suggested that Crystal Palace will not get relegated to the Championship.

Alan Shearer has written on Coral.co.uk that Newcastle United and Sunderland need to win four matches each in order to retain their Premier League status for next season.

The Magpies are second from bottom in the league table at the moment with 25 points from 30 matches, while Sunderland are just a point above them in 18th.

Former Newcastle striker Shearer believes that the two North East sides need to win four league games each between now and the end of the season.

The former England international has also claimed that Crystal Palace, who are seven points above the drop zone, will not get dragged into the relegation fight.

“Benitez was a great appointment for Newcastle but unfortunately he is not a magician and as a fan I have not seen enough to suggest we can relax and that we will be safe,” Shearer wrote on Coral.co.uk. “What hasn’t changed after this weekend is that it is still two from three who are in the relegation scrap.

“Swansea had a big win and I don’t think Palace will get sucked into it. For Newcastle and Sunderland, they might need four wins to survive which is asking a lot considering they have only won six games all season from 30 fixtures.”

Newcastle have been underperforming throughout the season, while Sunderland do not have a great squad.

At the moment, it is hard to see how the Magpies or the Black Cats will conjure up four wins from their remaining league games.

As for Palace, there is a danger that they could get sucked into the relegation fight.

The Eagles are severely struggling for positive results in the Premier League, and if they lose their next two matches, then they could be in trouble.
