US Soccer has confirmed the defender is out of action.
Tottenham Hotspur allowed Argentine Federico Fazio out on loan in the winter, despite an injury to Belgian central defender Jan Vertonghen.
When justifying the decision the Tottenham boss had one young player in mind for coverage - Cameron Carter-Vickers.
The 18-year-old is a massive talent whom the Tottenham coaching staff have massive belief for the future. His place in the team as fourth-choice centre-back illustrates that fact.
However, Spurs will now be hoping Vertonghen is back swiftly and that Toby Alderweireld, Kevin Wimmer and midfield-convert Eric Dier all stay fit - as Carter-Vickers has picked up an injury.
The teenager was originally placed in the US Under-23 squad for an upcoming Olympic qualifier against Colombia.
However US Soccer confirmed yesterday that the talented teen had pulled out of the fixture yesterday.
The rumours on Twitter are that he has suffered a back injury and will miss the rest of the season, however, there is no official confirmation on this.
Spurs should be able to cope.
Alderweireld has been, arguably, the best defender in the Premier League this season and Wimmer has proved a revelation in Vertonghen's absence. Meanwhile Eric Dier will have no issue dropping back into defence if needed.
So Spurs fans will hope that Carter-Vickers' injury is not too serious and that he can return to action as soon as possible.
