The Welshman set a new La Liga record, breaking the former Everton man's in the process.
The Welshman became the new record British and Irish goalscorer in La Liga holder on Sunday as he scored the third in his side’s 4-0 win over Sevilla.
That goal took him to 43 in Spain’s top flight since joining from Tottenham Hotspur in 2013 and helped him surpass the record previously held by Lineker.
It has taken him just 75 games to beat Lineker’s record, with Lineker having taken 103 games to reach 42 games during his three years at the Nou Camp between 1986 and 1989.
And the former striker was keen to praise Bale on Twitter following the game.
The record is certainly an impressive one for Bale; especially given the time he has achieved it in.
It will not be interesting to see just how far he goes during his time in Spain, with him likely to set a record that will be hard to beat in future.
Much will likely rest on the future of Cristiano Ronaldo, will Bale sure to become the main man and add more goals to his remarkable tally should the Portuguese star leave in future.
