West Ham United and Chelsea clashed at Stamford Bridge this weekend.
Football pundit Richard Keys has had his say on West Ham United’s 2-2 draw with Chelsea on Saturday, suggesting that while the Hammers deserved to win against the reigning Premier League champions they cannot complain as they avoided defeat in the recent FA Cup game against Manchester United.
West Ham are in brilliant form this season and are fighting for a top-four finish and a subsequent place in next season’s Champions League. However, the two points dropped this weekend could prove vital after Cesc Fabregas twice equalised for Chelsea.
Goals from Manuel Lanzini and Andy Carroll put the Hammers in the lead twice but the Blues had the Spanish midfielder to thank after his unlikely brace.
Writing on Twitter the day after the result, Keys said, “I thought West Ham deserved to win at Chelsea. I actually called a 2-1 win. But (Slaven) Bilic can’t complain. He got away with one at Old Trafford; move on.”
West Ham drew 1-1 with United in the FA Cup quarter-final last weekend and the two sides will now contest a replay at Upton Park.
As for the Premier League, the Hammers’ draw leaves them one point behind fourth-placed Manchester City who take on United at the Etihad Stadium later today.
