Manchester United and Manchester City went head-to-head this weekend.
The 18-year-old burst onto the scene when he scored two goals on his debut for United against FC Midtjylland and another double in his first Premier League outing a few days later against Arsenal.
Since those back-to-back braces the teenager’s superb spell in front of goal has settled down but he was back doing what he does best this weekend, opening the scoring for United away to Manchester City in a vital league encounter.
Rashford scored after just 16 minutes, slotting home a right-footed shot after an assist from Juan Mata.
That meant the teenager had scored on his European debut, league debut and in his first Manchester derby, and both Owen and Lineker – two men who know a thing or two about scoring goals – could not help but comment.
Writing on Twitter on Sunday afternoon, former United player Owen said, “Rashford looks top class. Pace causes problems regardless but add skill on the ball and you’ve got a player.”
As for Lineker, he said, “That’s a sparkling bit of play from Marcus Rashford,” after the teenager embarrassed City defender Martin Demichelis to put United in the lead.
