The Hammers have recruited quality players such as Manuel Lanzini, Dimitri Payet, Michail Antonio and Sam Byram since the end of last season.
Slaven Bilic’s side are challenging for a top-four finish in the Premier League, and there is a chance that they could feature in the Champions League next season.
“It will be a surprise to many but we always felt that the squad of players that we were putting together would help us knock on the door of the big teams,” Gold wrote on West Ham’s official website.
“As I said earlier in the season the big boys will start looking over their shoulders and that has proved to be the case. In fact we are now looking over our shoulders at some of the big teams! We have come a long way.”
“It is hard to believe the transformation that has taken place at the Club but it was always our plan to bring in quality players,” added the Englishman. “We had confidence in the manager and have continued our policy of bringing in quality signings.”
West Ham did not win this weekend, but the London side are certainly having a great season.
The Hammers are just a point behind fourth-placed Manchester City, and fans should remain optimistic of getting into the Champions League.
The London side will return to action at the start of next month when they take on Crystal Palace at the Boleyn Ground in the Premier League.
Palace are struggling for positive results at the moment, and West Ham should be able to win against them with relative ease.
