Tyne-Wear derby: Benitez comments on Allardyce, midfielder tweets message

Newcastle United and Sunderland will face each other in the Premier League on Sunday.

Newcastle United manager Rafael Benitez has suggested to The Shields Gazette that the feuds between him and Sam Allardyce are a thing of the past.

Benitez clashed with Allardyce many times during his time in charge of Liverpool.

The former Real Madrid coach will face the Englishman tomorrow in the Tyne-Wear derby at St. James’ Park.

Allardyce is in charge of Sunderland at the moment, and he will be determined to win the Premier League match.

Ahead of the game, Benitez has played down previous clashes with the former Bolton Wanderers and West Ham United boss.

"I am a professional, he is a professional,” the Spaniard told The Shields Gazette. “The main thing is the players on the pitch. I was away two and a half years, so I did not have the chance to meet him again. I am concentrating on our players."

Both Newcastle and Sunderland are in the Premier League relegation zone at the moment, and there is a distinct possibility that both could get relegated to the Championship at the end of the season.

Neither team can afford to lose the Tyne-Wear derby tomorrow, and it promises to be a fiercely contested game.

Newcastle midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum has taken to social networking site Twitter to suggest that he and his teammates will do their best to make the fans proud.
