The Lilywhites ace has been one of Tottenham Hotspur's best players.
The 24-year-old has weighed in with five league goals, with his last one coming at the Etihad Stadium in February when he struck a last-minute winner to give Tottenham all three points.
As it stands, Mauricio Pochettino's side sit second in the table, six clear of third-placed Arsenal - who have a game in hand - but five adrift of Leicester City, and Merson believes it is players like Eriksen who will help reduce that deficit from the Foxes.
"Christian Eriksen has been extremely consistent for Tottenham," the former Arsenal forward said on Sky Sports.
"He gets big goals for them, good assists and that's what you need from your big players when you are near the top of the Premier League.
"You have to keep performing when the pressure is on and he's doing that!"
Spurs host Bournemouth at White Hart Lane on Sunday evening knowing that they might well need the three points, with Leicester having the opportunity to go eight clear of them if they beat Crystal Palace away today.
But Eriksen is one small part of what must be a group effort if they are to win a first league title since 1961, with Harry Kane and Dele Alli also having big roles to play in the coming weeks.
