Sheffield Wednesday left-back Daniel Pudil has talked up the quality of on-loan winger Aiden McGeady following his superb performance in the recent win over Nottingham Forest, the Sheffield Star report.
McGeady joined the Owls on loan from Premier League side Everton during the January transfer window.
Despite his renowned quality, he endured a difficult opening period at Hillsborough as Carlos Carvalhal’s men suffered a loss of form and went five league games without a win.
However, the Yorkshire side bounced back with an emphatic win over Forest last weekend and McGeady was particularly influential at the City Ground, drawing praise from team-mate Pudil.
“I was really happy for Aiden. It has been quite hard for him because he didn’t play for five months or so. It is quite difficult to get up to speed but now he is showing everyone what he can do.,” Pudil explained.
“Aiden is a really good player and I am very happy he is here with us because he can make the difference in games. He’s a similar player to Fernando [Forestieri].”
“Aiden can go one v one and go past players. He has a great shot on him and hopefully his confidence is back after his strike at Forest and he can show everyone how good a player he is.”
His arrival caused quite a buzz around Hillsborough as a similar player to crowd favourite Fernando Forestieri on the other side of Gary Hooper gives the club a real potent attacking trio.
McGeady’s goal against Forest will undoubtedly boost his confidence, and with his fitness improving all the time he still has some part to play in the club’s bid for promotion.
Wednesday currently sit in sixth position in the Championship table, and they will be confident of maintaining their place in the playoffs with victory over struggling Charlton Athletic this weekend.
