James Milner backs brilliant Philippe Coutinho to keep getting better

The Brazilian impressed in the midweek draw with Manchester United in the Europa League.

Liverpool midfielder James Milner has backed Philippe Coutinho to keep getting better for the club following his midweek heroics, in comments made to BT Sport.

The Brazilian midfielder has often been the star of the show again for the Reds this season, with a series of impressive performances once again.

His latest big performance was in the midweek draw with Manchester United in the Europa League, as he scored a delightful chip over David De Gea to level Anthony Martial’s opener.

That goal was the icing on the cake in an all-round superb display and Milner has backed him to go on and become a top player in future.

“He’s a brilliant player and he’s only going to get better,” he told BT Sport.

“He’s still young and he’s got all the traits with a great temperament, he’s going to be a top, top player.”

“He’s got a good attitude, he just needs to keep learning but you need that bit of magic at times.”

Liverpool fans will now be hoping Coutinho can develop under Jurgen Klopp in a similar manner to how Mario Gotze did under his guidance at Borussia Dortmund,

The young German became one of the stars of the Bundesliga under Klopp’s direction, going on to score the winning goal for Germany in their World Cup success.

A similar rapid rise from Coutinho would be warmly welcomed, and the signs so far indicate he is set to continue to impress.
