After back-to-back defeats to struggling Rotherham United and Charlton Athletic and the uncertainty surrounding the position of head coach, it has been a pretty unhappy time for Middlesbrough supporters over the past 10 days.
However, that changed on Friday evening as they breathed new life into their challenge for automatic promotion with a dramatic 1-0 victory over Hull City at the Riverside Stadium.
It appeared as though the North-East side would have to settle for a point but as the game headed into added-on time, David Nugent was in the right place at the right time to send a header into the bottom corner.
The relief of the home supporters could be felt as they reclaimed a place in the top two of the Championship table and it didn't take long for the Boro faithful to take to Twitter to comment on what could prove out to be a hugely significant three points.
Some fans reserved praise for the decision to keep Karanka at the club when it seemed inevitable that he would be removed from the dugout.
Once we calm down we'll once again realise how fortunate we are to have Steve Gibson running this club. #Boro— Peter Bamford (@bamforp) March 18, 2016
