Paul Merson has told SkySports he believes Southampton will beat Liverpool this coming weekend.
The former Arsenal, Aston Villa and Portsmouth midfielder says he believes Ronald Koeman's side will get all three points at home against their opponents, courtesy of the Reds' efforts in the Europa League.
Merson predicts a 2-1 victory for the Saints, taking notice of their improved displays over the past few months.
He said: "Southampton have had some superb results in recent weeks. Their form has completely turned around.
"Liverpool will have put a lot of effort into their Europa league clash with Manchester United at Old Trafford on Thursday. It will certainly take a lot out of them so I'm predicting a 2-1 Southampton win."
The game takes place at 1.30pm on Sunday, with Liverpool having a quick turnaround for a second successive away game, but will be full of confidence after knocking Manchester United out 3-1 on aggregate.
Southampton have had a free week, knocked out in the early stages of the Europa League.
There is little to choose between the two teams in the Premier League table, both on 44 points with the Saints above on goal difference in seventh place, but crucially Liverpool have two games in hand.
Southampton have lost just two of their last 10 league matches, although both defeats have come in their last four games, while Liverpool have lost three of their last 10, but are unbeaten in their last four.
