Mark Wright and Don Hutchison pick Liverpool’s best players against Manchester United

Mamadou Sakho

Liverpool progressed to the Europa League quarter-finals at the expense of Manchester United.

Don Hutchison has taken to social networking site Twitter to claim that midfielder Emre Can was Liverpool’s best player against Manchester United on Thursday evening.

Liverpool played out a 1-1 draw with Premier League rivals United away from home in the second leg of the Europa League last-16 tie.

The result at Old Trafford means that the Reds have progressed to the quarter-finals of the prestigious European competition 3-1 on aggregate.

Former Liverpool midfielder Hutchison believes that Can was the best player in the game, while Mark Wright, who played for the Merseyside outfit as a defender in the 1990s, believes that Mamadou Sakho was the 'Match of the Match'.

Over the course of the 90 minutes at Old Trafford on Thursday evening, defender Sakho had a pass accuracy of 93%, attempted one dribble, won 71% of his tackles and 50% of his headers, and made one interception and 12 clearances.

Can had a pass accuracy of 74%, created two chances, put in one cross, attempted one dribble, won 73% of his tackles and 60% of his headers, and made four interceptions, four clearances and seven blocks.
