Joey Barton makes defiant statement about Leicester City's chances next season

Leicester City are currently five points clear at the top of the Premier League.

Joey Barton has told BBC Radio Five Live that Leicester City should not be ruled out of repeating this season’s heroics next year.

Leicester currently top the Premier League table, and they are on the verge of completing one of the biggest shocks in English footballing history.

Many observers have suggested that Leicester will never have such a good chance to win the Premier League again, but Barton doesn’t believe the Foxes will necessarily fall away.

“Leicester have Champions League football up their sleeve and they’re going to be able to compete for a better quality player,” Barton said.

“They’re in a better position than they were this year, and this year they have a chance of winning the league. It’s stupid to write them off and say that they can’t compete in the Champions League.

“Don’t allow conception and the media spin that Leicester aren’t a top side [to sway you].They deserve to be there.”

Leicester are currently five points clear at the top of the Premier League, and they are enjoying a remarkable season.

The Midlands side were tipped as one of the favourites for relegation before the campaign started, but they have surpassed all expectations.

Leicester have lost just three times all season, and they are now the bookies’ favourites to be lifting the title in May.

Claudio Ranieri’s side’s next match comes against Crystal Palace on Selhurst Park, and if they are able to claim a victory it would take them a big step closer to finishing at the top of the pile.
