Crystal Palace out to ruin another title bid, says Alan Pardew

Alan Pardew says Leicester City should not underestimate Crystal Palace given the Eagles' history of derailing Premier League title bids.

Alan Pardew says his Crystal Palace side will be out to put a dent in Leicester City's title hopes when the two sides meet at Selhurst Park on Saturday.

The Eagles go into the clash on the back of a wretched run of 12 Premier League games without a win, but the former Newcastle United boss insists the pressure will be on the league leaders, adding that memories of Liverpool's capitulation in South London two years ago may play on their minds.

Despite the Merseysiders racing into a 3-0 lead shortly after half-time, a dramatic brace from Dwight Gayle inspired Palace, then under the stewardship of Tony Pulis, to claw back three goals in the last 11 minutes to effectively end the Reds' title charge.

“This place has been a banana skin in the past and typical of Crystal Palace," Pardew told the Mirror.

"Our history is littered with upsets against the odds, that’s what this club is about. I’m trying to change that and at the moment not doing a very good job."

Despite Leicester turning in another assured performance during the 1-0 win over his former club Newcastle on Monday, Pardew insists end-of-season nerves are inevitable.

“It is human instinct is when you’re trying to achieve something magnificent like they are, you’re going to start worrying and doubting,” he added.

“They have had almost the perfect season, it doesn’t always come all the way through that perfect run, maybe their blips are to come. We’ll see.”

However, the 54-year-old insists his side are not content with simply playing the role of title party poopers, adding: "I want us to be more consistent and be an established Premier League team. Half of last term and half of this term, we’ve done a brilliant job. Just the second half of this season we’ve come off it.

"There are still 10 games to go and we can make a big impact. We’re all fit, have no excuses to offer and I expect us to win some games.”
