Trevor Sinclair explains what West Ham star's dad said to him before Payet free-kick

Payet Skill

Trevor Sinclair lifts the lid on a conversation he had just before West Ham United hero Dimitri Payet scored THAT free-kick at Manchester United.

The Hammers were desperately unlucky to be held to a 1-1 draw by the Red Devils on Sunday after Payet's sumptuous late free-kick looked to have given Slaven Bilic's men a deserved place in the semi-finals at Wembley.

But Anthony Martial bundled home a scrappy equaliser to set up a fitting last ever FA Cup game at West Ham's Boleyn Ground home of 112 years ahead of their big move to the Olympic Stadium this summer.

More than 9,000 West Ham fans made their way to Manchester to witness what will go down as one of the great goal's in FA Cup history.

One of those fans was former player turned pundit Trevor Sinclair.

The former winger was an instant hero to Hammers fans after scoring both goals in a 2-2 draw with Everton on his debut in 1998 following a move from Queens Park Rangers.

In a career spanning five years at Upton Park, Tricky Trev - as he affectionately became known on the terraces - scored another 35 goals in 177 appearances, the most he made at any one club throughout his career.

And he still keeps his ear to the ground about the goings on at his old club if his interview with West Ham's official website is anything to go by.

'We should have known better'

Sinclair, a boyhood Manchester City fan, gave a fascinating insight into what Hammers skipper Mark Noble's dad told him before Payet struck that free-kick.

"Dimitri Payet’s free-kick was absolutely unbelievable," Sinclair told whufc.com.

"I was sat next to Mark Noble’s dad and he said to me that before the game he saw Payet score an identical one before hitting about five into row Z!

"We were all anticipating row Z but we should have known better.

"When it went in we all went mad in the stand!"

Sinclair will be back at Upton Park later this month when he forms part of a West Ham All Stars squad who will take on the current side for Noble's testimonial.

The game takes place on Easter Monday and will feature other legends such as Rio Ferdinand and Paolo Di Canio.
