Butcher, who was famed for his take no prisoners approach during his playing days, has been impressed by Noble’s performances for the Hammers so far this season.
And the former England international believes that Noble has been the driving force behind the Hammers’ success this term.
“Mark Noble is the driving force behind the team,” Butcher said. “If you look at him, you would say him and Danny Drinkwater are the toughest players in the Premier League. He’s been exceptional.”
Noble’s superb form has led to talk of him making England’s squad for EURO 2016.
The central midfielder has been awarded the captain’s armband at Upton Park this season, and he has led by example.
Noble has set the tone for West Ham’s performances and although he may not have created as many headlines as some of his teammates, he has still impressed.
Noble’s form has been a major reason behind West Ham’s push for the top four, with the London side currently just two points away from fourth placed Manchester City.
West Ham’s next match comes against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.
