The Reds boss has called on his side to dictate the atmosphere at Manchester United with their own performance.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has told the club's official website that his side can help themselves secure European victory over Manchester United by dictating the atmosphere at Old Trafford through their own performance.

Goals from Daniel Sturridge and Roberto Firmino at Anfield gave the Reds a 2-0 lead going into the second leg to the Europa League last-16 tie against their rivals on Thursday night.

The first leg was played amidst a cacophony of noise from Liverpool supporters, and Klopp says the onus is on his players to help the travelling fans match that atmosphere from the away end.

The German told reporters, as quoted by the club's official website: "Hopefully it’s a good atmosphere, I like it. In Liverpool it was different from the first second onwards, but if we had played poorly I’m pretty sure it would have been not too easy to have the same atmosphere over the whole 95 minutes.

"We will decide how good the atmosphere is tomorrow with our performance. 3,000 Liverpool fans is enough, 3,000 is a really good number! And if they give their best, I’m sure we will take this and try to keep it in our performance.

"It’s not the Manchester United crowd against the Liverpool crowd, it’s the two teams against each other and the performance is always one reason for the atmosphere. So we want to do our best and it would mean it is difficult for Manchester United to enjoy the game."

Klopp's side took a giant step to emerging victorious from the first ever European tie between the two English giants, but they will know the task is far from complete.

If Liverpool can finish the job at Old Trafford, it would see them advance to the quarter-final stage of a European competition for the first time since reaching the semi-finals of the Europa League six years ago.
